WHERE DO I GO IN THE TUSCALOOSA COUNTY COURTHOUSE?

A couple of weeks ago we talked about the different courthouses in Tuscaloosa. In most ways, the busiest one is the County Courthouse. There are seven floors, nine courtrooms and four clerks’ offices. It’s also the home of the Offices of the District Attorney and Public Defender.
In this blog, we will talk about knowing where to go based on what your court documents say. We will also list the different offices and courtrooms in the Courthouse.
WHAT IS MY CASE NUMBER?
The easiest way to find out where you need to go is to look at the case number. Below is a list of the different codes in case numbers and what they stand for:
CC – Circuit Criminal (2nd, 3rd, and 7th Floors)
CV – Circuit Civil (2nd, 3rd, and 7th Floors)
DC – District Criminal (6th Floor)
DV – District Civil (6th Floor)
PC – Probate Court (1st Floor)
SM – Small Claims Court (6th Floor)
TR – Traffic Court (6th Floor)
JU – This is for the juvenile court, which is located on 6001 12th Ave. E. Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
MC – This is the Municipal Court next to the parking lot of Moes’ Barbecue downtown. Address: 2122 6th St. Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
WHO IS MY JUDGE?
Sometimes, a document will have the initials of the Judge following the case number. Here is a list of the judges initials and where their courtrooms are.
AWM – Judge May, (2nd Floor)
DES – Judge Steverson, (5th Floor)
DFP – Judge Pruet, (7th Floor)
ECH – Judge Hamner, (5th Floor)
JEG – Judge Gentry, (6th Floor)
JHR – Judge Roberts, (3rd Floor)
JMJ – Judge Jannik, (6th Floor)
MBA – Judge Almond, (7th Floor)
